Duplicating parts with a double side silicon mold -Duplicating parts You can duplicate parts with silicon molds and casting resin. Molds has two kinds called one side mold and one side mold. I comments about one side mold in this page. *Details of duplicating parts with a one side silicon mold are here. -Watch video At first, watch video. -How to make silicon mold 1.Make original form Make original form with Plastic sheets, Polyester putty, sculpey. But, I think there must be similar things in outside of Japan. 9.Weigh while you are pouring silicon to a polyethylene beaker You must weigh with a measure. The beaker has divisions, but don't use it. Because it's divisions for water. (The water is different from silicon in weight.) Using paper cups is also OK. Proper quality is written in a package. Weigh correctly. 11.Drip silicon from the stick to the original form. And cover the original form. Don't pour in one go. Air bublles are made if do that way. After covering, spray air with Air duster. Air bublles are disappeared. 12.Pour silicon 13.Wait untile hardening. Hardening time varies according to commodity. Early thing is about 8 hours. Slow thing is about 24 hours. 9.Take off frames. 9.Take off the clay. 16. Cut off protruded silicon with Craft Knife. 17.Remove left clay with a toothbrush. 18.Paste Silicone Barrier with paint brush.(Don't need to paint original form and sticks.) If you forget this, both side becomes one. It's a fialue. 19.Wait untile hardening. Hardening time varies according to commodity. Early thing is about 8 hours. Slow thing is about 24 hours. 20.Take off frames 21.Take the slicone to piece. If you can't take, make breaks softly. 22.Joint points not jointed by cutting with Craft Knife. 23.Cut the gate and extend. 24.Complete -Duplicate 1.Paste Silicone Barrier to points put on original form and flow roads with paint brush. Taking off becomes easy if painted this. You can take off if don't paint this. But the mold becomes to easy to be broken. 2.Combine molds and bind with rubber bands. In the case of small mold, Masking tape is also OK. Wide rubber band. -Store:D.I.Y shop -Price:200Yen (about 130Yen = 1dollar) 3.Fit nozzle to can of casting resin. This is commodity of sold separately. It's easy to pour if you fit nozzle. Casting resin -Store:D.I.Y shop,Toy shop -Price:3000Yen (about 130Yen = 1dollar) Nozzle -Store:D.I.Y shop,Toy shop -Price:700Yen (about 130Yen = 1dollar) 4.Weigh while you are pouring casting resin to a paper cup. 5.Adjust until "A" riquid and "B" riquid are same quality. 6.Mix "A" riquid and "B" riquid 7.Pour to the silicon mold. 8.Wait about 10 minutes. take off if casting resin harden. 9.Cut off left parts. 10.Complete Casting resin may harden before you finish pouring. In this way, extend flow roads and the gate with Craft Knife. -Prepare for painting Surface of casting resin parts has Silicone barrier. Paints are repeled if paint it as it is. Then clean it. Clean surface with "bure-kuri-n(one of Jpanese cleaning riquid for industrial use) ". Clean with a toothbrush while spraying. "Mr.resin primer surfacer"(one of undercoat for casting resin) -Store:Toy shop -Price:500Yen (about 130Yen = 1dollar) "Purasahu"(one of undercoat for casting resin) -Store:D.I.Y shop -Price:600Yen (about 130Yen = 1dollar) The commodity of this photo is Japanese commodity. But, I think there must be similar things in outside of Japan. Drying of undercoat for casting resin need about 3 or 4 hours. Paint paints after drying undercoat. -Supplementation part1 Cut unnecesarry silicon molds to scraps. And increase quality with scraps. However increase after covering the whole of orignal form. -Supplementation part2 You may make many pieces. Duplicating one by one takes time, then make silicon form can make many pieces at a time. Attention in the work -When you uses a thing including the thinner(Bond, lacquer thinner etc) or spray, make good ventilation. And wear a gas mask. -When you toast mterials etc, make good ventilation. And don't breathe smoke, don't put smoke in your eyes. -When you dig mterials etc with Soldering iron, make good ventilation.
